Fortification

As you expand on your island, the Crown will show an increasing interest in you. It will send out ships to attack you directly, trying to root out this new pirate threat of the Seven Seas. If the attack is successful, these ships will destroy a lot of buildings and kill many pirates.

The Crown targets your Pirate Camps from fixed Attack Points. You can see these Attack Points when you build a new Pirate Camp. There are safe spots on the island, as the Crown will only attack Pirate Camps that it can reach from the Attack Points.

If they get past your defences, attacking ships will bombard your island. This puts every building inside the breached Pirate Camp range into a Crisis state.

During Crisis state, all building functions are suspended as your pirates run for their lives. The bombardment will randomly destroy many buildings and kill any pirates that were inside them. Once satisfied with its success, the Crown ship will stop the bombardment and return to where it came from.

Completing an event in the Seven Seas may trigger an attack from the Crown in retaliation. Even if you reduce your raiding activities, the Crown will periodically send out ships to attack you. When an attacking ship is en route to your island, you can intercept it with your own ship before it reaches your island.

As soon as the attacking ship reaches your island, it will start fighting with any Gun Towers that cover its Attack Point. Towers fire their salvos first. If the ship survives, it will answer fire and destroy a tower at random. The fight continues until either the ship or all towers are destroyed.

Gun Towers need Ammunition to work. To create Ammunition, the towers need several resources, including a lot of Black Powder. Small Gun Towers can only store one salvo worth of Ammunition, while larger towers can fire multiple salvos.

One stack of Ammunition equals one salvo. After firing, towers need to reload and stock up on Ammunition again.

Build Gun Towers to defend against Crown attacks. They will fight back any attackers, as long as you keep them supplied.

Gun Towers have a limited attack range and need a clear firing line to an Attack Point. A single Gun Tower can cover multiple Attack Points, if placed smartly. As you sail out further into the Seven Seas, you will gain stronger towers with longer ranges.

Placing multiple Gun Towers to cover a single Attack Point is also possible. When defending, their damage is combined and can defeat even large ships with a single salvo.
