Emergency Events and Satisfaction
  • Pirates will steadily consume their Upkeep resources. This applies to Hands working on the island and to ship Crew. If you fail to provide sufficient Upkeep resources in time or do not provide enough Housing for the pirates, Satisfaction will sink.
  • Once their Satisfaction drops to zero, you get an Emergency Event as a warning phase. Then you can choose how to resolve the issue. If you fail to resolve it, you will lose Cohesion and the situation will escalate.
  • The situation will escalate with ever-increasing stakes, until you either resolve the issue or lose the game.
Cohesion
  • Cohesion is the measure of how united the pirate community is. When Cohesion drops to zero, the game is lost. No big fights, death or starvation. Just animosity and discontent as the connective tissue is gone, and the group disbands.
  • You can gain and lose Cohesion through your decisions. Some buildings give you ways to generate Cohesion or raise it above 100. Also, successfully completing events in the Seven Seas will always give you Cohesion — some more, some less.
Upkeep Distribution
  • Upkeep resources also need to be distributed to the pirates. There are special buildings for this. For example, the Galley will distribute food, the Tavern will distribute drinks, and the Arsenal will distribute weapons.
  • Make sure to have the required buildings built and Fetchers assigned to fetch the resources you need to distribute. If a single production chain is not sufficient to support the pirate Upkeep, you can assign additional Fetchers to more production buildings and construct more distribution buildings.
Pirate Types
  • There are two types of pirates: The ones who live on the island and operate the economy are called Hands. Pirates who man the ships and go on adventures in the Seven Seas are called Crew.
  • Pirates require Housing and Upkeep. Everyone needs at least a place where they can sleep. Working Hands and Crew additionally want food, drink and other resources for their Upkeep. As you get more buildings and ships, you will need to satisfy more Upkeep.
