Ships

Captains
  • A fully constructed ship requires a Captain and Crew to operate. Captains can be assigned via the Pier menu.
  • Captains differ in appearance, backstory, cards and perks. Additional Captains can be unlocked in the Seven Seas.
  • A ship can be lost in an event when its Health or Crew reaches 0. At the end of the event, you will be asked to decide to save the Crew, salvage the ship, or save the Captain. Captains never die. But if you do not prioritize saving a Captain, they will be hurt and become unavailable for assignments for some time.
Crew Hiring
  • A fully constructed ship requires a Captain and Crew to operate. Crew hiring comes with resource costs and additional requirements, such as specific buildings.
  • A ship can be operated with a basic Crew, but it will lack its full strength. A better Crew increases ship stats, but comes with higher cost and higher Upkeep. It is possible to hire Crew by type and define a specific amount of Crew to be hired.
  • When fired, Crew pirates become Drifters again — the resources paid for hiring are lost. No pirate gives up their Crew status without a fight; firing Crew reduces Cohesion in accordance with the amount of fired pirates. Be careful when you fire the Crew to not put yourself in a bad situation.
Dismantling Ships
  • A ship can be dismantled at its Pier. The dismantle button tooltip provides information about refunds. A ship is instantly dismantled, and the refunded resources go into the Loot Pile of the related Pier. Watch out for fired Crew that has no ship left to sail – they will not be happy and Cohesion will drop.
Loot pile
  • Every Pier has a Loot Pile. When a ship returns from the Seven Seas, the Crew will unload all of the journey's loot into that pile. The Loot Pile can be accessed from the Pier menu, and its Loot can be fetched by Warehouses or production buildings.
  • Be aware that everything in the Loot Pile belongs to the community. Over time, the pirates will turn it into personal property, revoking your access to the resource. If you want to make sure that the loot goes towards a specific purpose, assign fetchers from a storage to seize it.
Piers
  • Ships are constructed, repaired and upgraded in the the Pier building. Piers also let you manage the ship's Crew and Captain. All unlocked Piers can be found in the Construction Menu.
  • Different types of Piers provide access to different ships. Ships are unlocked in the Compass. The basic Pier will be unlocked at the start, and others will be unlocked when stronger ships become available. Piers can be upgraded to the next higher tier, but a high-tier Pier can also be built from scratch.
  • Once a Pier is selected in the Construction Menu, it must be placed in a suitable slot, which is indicated with a Pier icon. To be fully built, a Pier requires construction resources and a Pirate Camp connection.
Journey Summary
  • When a ship returns to its Pier, you will get a summary of its journey. It shows the loot you got, as well as the cost in Crew and repairs you paid for it.
Repairing Ships
  • Ships get damaged during events and will then need to be repaired. A ship can be repaired at its Pier. Returning to Pier refills the Supplies of the ship.
  • Ship repair takes time. You can see the resource cost in the tooltip of the repair button. Repair can be started without having the required resources, so that production chains can produce the right resources on demand.
Ship Replacement
  • Ships can be upgraded to better or different ones at their Pier.
  • When replacing ships, the current and newly selected ship are presented against each other. Compare stats by hovering over different ship icons. A tooltip will showcase which stats are better or worse between the two ships.
  • The "Replace Ship" confirmation menu shows which resources you will get back and what kind of new resources are required for the new ship. The current ship's Crew and captain will be fired. Firing Crew members, who then become Drifters again, will cause Cohesion to drop.
Building a Ship
  • Each Pier can construct and hold only one ship. To construct a ship, open the ship selection menu inside an empty Pier. Ships differ in appearance, backstory, stats, Crew requirements, and construction costs. Ship construction can start before all required resources are available, so that the right production chains can be established in response to the demand.
  • Ship construction takes time and requires a logistic connection to get construction resources.
